After a day, I have some impressions for you:
#1 This is probably the most poorly laid out convention I've seen. The Convention Center doesn't have a centralized place for information, the presentations, panels, and rooms are spread out and hard to find, and the parties are at a hotel blocks away.
#2 Most importantly every convention should have a place for informal mingling and happenstance meetings - that place is a bar - and this convention has no bar at its center - meaning it has no heart.
#3 The funniest thing I've heard is from a fellow passenger on the shuttle coming into town. He was talking to a friend about going for a run after checking into the hotel. He's from Seattle and was concerned about the effects of elevation on his jogging. He turned to us and asked, "Does anyone know what the elevation is here?"
We're in Denver.
#4 In the elevator I learned that if a joke falls flat, just keep repeating it every time a new passenger gets on. Eventually someone will laugh - - or not.
- rick, gearing up for another day.

is this the convention center with the big blue bear?
yeah, I've been there... the layout sucks.

So, don't leave us hanging. What is the elevation of the mile-high city?
Poor sea-level Seattle-boy is going to be sucking wind.

doesn't there have to be air for there to be wind?

How high is it in Kilometers?
Also, NO bars is never a good thing, but he called this morning with a throbbing head. (heehee)
I am on my way to Cass Lake, MN.
I am staying at a resort and they do have a bar.
Miss you, baby! Drink plenty of water!!! Get some coffee, no sugar drinks and take some aspirin. It's going to be more painful, cause you know you are higher up then you are used to...don't be like that other wind sucker, play smart.

Yeah, don't be a wind sucker.

Bex, it is the one with the Big Blue Bear .. . and if you meet in front of the convention center it invariably comes up that the bear looks like it's taking a dump on the tourists.
Rose, there were bars . . . just not a centralized one where the fans and authors could easily comingle. Trust me, I found bars - - and scotch, and beer, and some vodka (although the Bloody Mary's were nothing to brag about).
