I went to my first award ceremonies last night and while I can't tell you everything that went on, just because I don't remember all the details and I'm not familiar with some of the preliminary awards, people, or zines, I will give you some of my strongest impressions:
1. Will McCarthy as MC was fantastic - funny, smart, well prepared.
2. John Scalzi won the Fan Writer award. He's a favorite because he's personable and a masterful writer. In his acceptance speech he graciously asked for people to vote for others next year. He wants no monopoly on an award which rightfully should go to a true fan and not a working pro.
3. Soon they're going to have to rename the award, The Connie Willis Award. She won again and she's hilarious. I love an irreverent writer who's not afraid of scatology. Advice - never get into a battle of wits with her.
4. When Ted Chiang writes a story, the award committees should not bother to nominate anyone else. His victory seems to be a foregone conclusion - and rightfully so: this year's story was my favorite in the category.

The Doctor Who episode "blink" is one of my favorites. It's amazing! :)

No problem, Rose. (I actually found a place with all the links already listed, so copying them was from a single source)
Jane, I have the Chabon book. Only in audio, unfortunately.
Cherise - at the convention theatres they played all the nominees. I'm kind of interested in seeing Torchwood now.

You know I am a HUGE fan of Torchwood and have been trying to get you to watch it!!! I highly recommend you and Sugar try it on Netflix. It's a spin off of Doctor Who and I really enjoy both shows, tremendously. :)
