When my good friend, Bill, went in to be treated for Cancer, it was in a facility which is the best in the world because of the tireless research and funding work that Ted Kennedy brought to the facility. Senator Kennedy is in that facility now as I understand it. No one I know from Massachusetts speaks ill of the man's work, his commitment, or his dedication.
But there are plenty of people who do not like him. I perused some right-wing sites today and here's a sampling from the comments. (I'm not going to link them, because I don't want to give them any more traffic than they deserve.) I left all typos as I found them.
He is scum…….pond scum.Nice, huh?
I don’t wish him cancer or pain, but this pig has bloviated and demogogued in the Senate for FORTY SIX FRIGGIN YEARS. Mary Jo Kopechne would be 65 now. She’s been dead for 40 years. Meanwhile back at the SCOTCH and WATER.
Prayers for the woman he left to die, Mary Jo Kopechne. Ted Kennedy has already received all the breaks in the world. He got away with vehicular homicide and afterwards has spent his life showing no mercy to and villifying Republcans. I cry for the millions of aborted babies and the rest of the victims of Liberal insanity like his.
and some poetry of sorts:
I am a conservative, so I believe in moral absolutes. A bad man is still a bad man, even if he gets a disease. Bad things happening to bad men is good.
I am a conservative, so I don’t eulogize criminals. It’s another assault on their victims.
I am a Christian, so I know that God is also not warm and fuzzy all of the time. If you believe He is, you should read about Ninevah, Sodom & Gomorrah, Jericho, and Noah & the Flood.
So please, stop with the self-righteous “we should be better than this” talk.
Some advice for Senator Edwards:
John Edwards, look out.. See what happens when you endorse Barack Obama…
And of course, some inevitable satisfying of Godwin's Law:
Would we all “put politics aside” and slobber over [an Ameican] Hitler? I’m not saying Teddy is that — the blood is spread ove more hands…
Mr Kennedy & his ilk actively pursued policies, laws & positions to advance an ideology that made Hitler’s blood-tally a piker’s score.
Gentle wishes for his time in the afterlife:
Let’s hope the victims of his actions, including Mary Joe, are waiting for him on the other side, with lead pipes, pliers and a blowtorch.
May Ted Kennedy overcome this trial of humanity so that he may meet his just end.
No peace. The man is evil.
And no prayers from this Christian:
Pray for him? I don’t understand what the prayers would be? That he avoid death’s door for a long time? Do you mean that he should live on and suffer? And as he suffers his family suffers?
Or does one pray that he goes quickly? Pray that he dies quickly?
Judge not, lest
From what I’ve seen, all of the Kennedy men, including St. JFK were and are scum. Why America is so fascinated with this group of lechers, addicts, and criminals is beyond me.
Such compassion:
I do not mourn him and I never will.
What comes around goes around. Remember that!
I feel no sympathy whatsoever. If you think that makes me a bad person so be it, but I’m not a phony person and I won’t pretend to like this man…ever. I’ll sleep well either way.
Kopechne’s revenge
He was not an honorable man in life, he will not likely die with honor either.
and even some boredom:
76 year old male alcoholic diagnosed with cancer………..yawn.
Must be a slow news day, huh?

It's a little premature to be eulogizing the man, but here's what Mike Lux at Open Left had to say:
"Kennedy has been a player in literally every major progressive accomplishment of my life, usually a major player, quite often the leading player: the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, Legal Services, the War on Poverty, environmental legislation, OSHA, bringing down Richard Nixon on the Watergate investigations, ending the Vietnam War, stopping military aid to the Contras in Central America, the Martin Luther King holiday, stopping Robert Bork, the increases in the minimum wage, Family and Medical Leave, National Service, Motor Voter Act, S-CHIP. His fingerprints are on all of that legislation, and more. And even where he failed, on universal health care and labor law reform and stopping the Iraq war and other battles, he fought the good fight with passion and heart and courage. I hope like hell his fight is not ending, that he does not go gentle into that good night, because we need his passion and heart and courage in these cautious, careful times all the more."
That's one hell of a record. Kennedy made the world a better place for literally millions of human beings. Not many people -- and I'm damn sure none of the people who make comments like the ones you quoted -- can say that about themselves.

i had to stop reading the comments you posted rick. they are sick-making
yesterday on my way home from work, i was listening to a local radio dude (colin mcenroe). he had bill curry on, interviewing him about teddy.
if you want to hear it, it's here: http://www.wtic.com/pages/5478.php
on the left hand side just click on colin with bill curry)
bill told all sorts of nice stories about teddy. what a goofball he was, how he lived in almost constant pain from a plane accident, how he stumped for bill when no one else would, how he worked with even his staunchest opponents in order to get GOOD things done and on and on. i posted a story today about what that shite pile, michael savage had on his radio show.
i don't know i think most of us think of teddy as our uncle. that's how i feel about him
