This has been an extremely difficult winter. I've been sick several times, then I found out I have high blood pressure. Well, this week the killer flu from hell decided to visit. It's been coming in waves - first the toilet, then a really nasty headache, and then the sore throat. This sore throat is the "bringing tears to your eyes every time you swallow" sore throat.
I've been spending the past two days on the futon under blankets chilled and sweating. It's gross.
As a result I've gotten no writing done in the past two weeks. When I try - nothing. I can't concentrate.
I'm supposed to fly out to Wendover, Nevada tomorrow. That's not going to happen now. There's no point in going out there to be miserable except just to give my nasty illness to Alan and his family. Alan, sure - but I like his wife and their son.
So I'm just going to stick it out here and be sick. And hope for some kind of recovery.
In the meantime, I have a cartoon for you.
It came to me by way of Sugar's blog (yes, Sugar has started a blog). Who knew that Garfield was a better comic without Garfield in it.
From the site description:
Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness and methamphetamine addiction in a quiet American suburb.

rick, i am VERY sorry you're ill and very sorry you'll be unable to visit alan. hope you can reschedule
